This scene is from near Captain Cook’s Monument, looking across towards Roseberry Topping. My husband used to climb Roseberry Topping as a child, so visiting here always brings back lovely childhood memories for him.
The iconic silhouette of this majestic landmark is unmistakable and can be seen from miles around.
On the day we visited, we climbed up to Captain Cook’s Monument and had a lovely family picnic at the top, with stunning panoramic views all around. It is a very beautiful and special place.
In this artwork, I’ve hand-sewn embroidery into the foreground, depicting a tapestry of buttercups interspersed with delicate pink and blue forget-me-nots.
Hiking up to the peak,
A monumental sight to seek.
A picnic sheltered from the gust,
The view of Roseberry is a must.
Hot and windy, a summer’s day,
This scene in my mind will always stay.
Panoramic views from way up there,
A majestic place, I do declare.

What is a giclée print?
Pronounced “zhee-clay”, giclée is the French word meaning “to spray”. Giclée printing is a high-quality fine art printing process using archival pigmented inks to produce excellent detail and rich colours, with prints designed to last for many years.

Drawing on my Fine Art degree, I create my felt landscapes using wool as a painter would use oils or watercolours. Layers of coloured merino wool fibres are carefully arranged to build the landscape before being transformed into felt using the traditional wet felting technique of hot soapy water, rolling and friction.
During felting, the wool naturally shrinks by around 15–20%, creating a single piece of felt. Once dry, I use needle felting to refine details and add texture before the artwork is professionally scanned for printing.
