Malham Cove is one of our favourite family walks in Yorkshire. We usually head to the top of the Cove first, then wander down into the woods to visit Janet’s Foss. It’s such a lovely spot for bathers and paddlers (like myself!)- a little cooling dip before carrying on into the village of Malham. I can highly recommend a visit.
In this waterfall painting, I wanted to capture the feeling of standing in front of Janet’s Foss: the movement of the falling water, the cool, refreshing air around the pool, and the colours that shift and blend in the spray. Although the work is abstract, it carries the sense of place I always feel when visiting this magical corner of Yorkshire.
Painted on paper using layered acrylics with touches of oil paint, this piece forms part of my Waterfall Series – a collection inspired by Yorkshire waterfalls, including the serene flow of Janet’s Foss and the dramatic landscape around Malham Cove.
The original painting measures 27.3cm (W) x 28cm (H)
