Abstract art print “Abstract Rock Formations” is a limited edition giclée art print reproduced from my original felt landscape artwork. Inspired by the beautiful rock formations worn and shaped by the sea along the Northumberland coast near Seahouses and Bamburgh.
MEDIUM: Limited edition giclée art print from an original felt landscape artwork
STYLE: Abstract felt art / Northumberland coastal art
LOCATION: Seahouses, Northumberland
SUBJECT: Abstract rock formations / Northumberland coast / sea-worn rocks
We’ve developed a huge fondness for Northumberland over the years, finding ourselves drawn back time and again.
We often stay in Seahouses as it has the convenience of lots of shops, a supermarket and restaurants.
One day we walked along the coast from Seahouses towards Bamburgh Beach, where I noticed these beautiful rock patterns worn and shaped by the sea.
I loved the colours, shapes and textures created naturally by the rocks and the movement of the sea. Rather than simply painting the scene as I saw it, I wanted to capture the abstract shapes and patterns that caught my eye.
My prints are professionally produced using high-quality materials and archival pigmented inks. Customers often comment on the exceptional quality of my prints, saying they look even better in person than they expected.
What is a giclée print?
Pronounced “zhee-clay”, giclée is the French word meaning “to spray”. Giclée printing is a high-quality fine art printing process using archival pigmented inks to produce excellent detail and rich colours, with prints designed to last for many years.
PLEASE NOTE: FRAME AND MOUNT ARE NOT INCLUDED.
Slight variations in colour may occur between the printed artwork and the image you see on your screen.
Drawing on my degree in Fine Art, I use wool in lots of different colours, much as you would use tubes of paint, and lay out the loose fibres of different coloured wool onto my base, as you would paint onto canvas.
Once finished, the next stage is to make these loose fibres of wool stick together using the wet felting technique to turn the wool painting into a piece of felt. This is done by adding hot soapy water and friction. The hot water opens up the wool’s scales and the friction, through rubbing and rolling, binds them together. During this process the wool shrinks by about 15–20%, leaving one piece of felt material.
Once the felted picture is dry, I needle felt into the piece to sharpen some of the details.
