Bamburgh art print, “Dunes At Bamburgh” is a limited edition giclée art print reproduced from my original felt landscape artwork. It captures the beautiful sand dunes and meadow flowers at Bamburgh, Northumberland, with Bamburgh Castle visible in the distance.
MEDIUM: Limited edition giclée art print from an original felt landscape artwork
STYLE: Northumberland coastal art / felt landscape art
LOCATION: Bamburgh, Northumberland
SUBJECT: Sand dunes / meadow flowers / Bamburgh Castle / Northumberland coast
As you walk over the sand dunes in August towards the beach, you can see these beautiful pink flowers with Bamburgh Castle as a backdrop in the distance.
As a family, we love Northumberland and in particular Bamburgh Beach. The castle is such an iconic landmark that you can see it for miles around and from many different locations.
For this artwork, I wanted to capture the beauty of the dunes and meadow flowers as much as the castle itself. I love the way the flowers and grasses lead your eye through the landscape towards Bamburgh Castle in the distance.
I have hand-sewn lots of embroidery into the foreground to create the pink flowers on the dunes, adding extra texture and detail to the felt landscape.
Bamburgh Castle – From The Beach
The dunes around the castle flow,
Like wild flowers in the meadow.
So beautiful, elegant and strong,
Where once a battle was won.
The sea, the sand, the open air,
A place we go and deeply care.
We visit often, calm and free,
A place of joy beside the sea.
Adventure finds us on the beach,
Bodyboarding within our reach.
A family favourite, that’s for sure,
For memories that will endure.
My prints are professionally produced using high-quality materials and archival pigmented inks. Customers often comment on the exceptional quality of my prints, saying they look even better in person than they expected.
What is a giclée print?
Pronounced “zhee-clay”, giclée is the French word meaning “to spray”. Giclée printing is a high-quality fine art printing process using archival pigmented inks to produce excellent detail and rich colours, with prints designed to last for many years.
PLEASE NOTE: FRAME AND MOUNT ARE NOT INCLUDED.
Slight variations in colour may occur between the printed artwork and the image you see on your screen.
Drawing on my degree in Fine Art, I use wool in lots of different colours, much as you would use tubes of paint, and lay out the loose fibres of different coloured wool onto my base, as you would paint onto canvas.
Once finished, the next stage is to make these loose fibres of wool stick together using the wet felting technique to turn the wool painting into a piece of felt. This is done by adding hot soapy water and friction. The hot water opens up the wool’s scales and the friction, through rubbing and rolling, binds them together. During this process the wool shrinks by about 15–20%, leaving one piece of felt material.
Once the felted picture is dry, I needle felt into the piece to sharpen some of the details.
