Cleveland Way painting “Lake View at Sutton Bank”, Yorkshire.

Following the path of the Cleveland Way, we walked and saw this breathtaking panorama, of the Yorkshire hills and lake below at Sutton Bank.

It certainly is a magnificent view. You can see far into the distance where a patchwork of fields dot the landscape and the summer meadow flowers sway in the foreground. A visit to Sutton Bank promises to be a great experience for hiking enthusiasts, cyclists and families.

You can park at the Sutton Bank National Park Visitor Centre, where you can find an information centre with details of walking trails and biking routes. Additionally, the center has a lovely cafe, perfect for tea and cakes after an excursion, and a small play area nestled amoung the trees.

Unframed:- The final artwork is mounted in a double thickness acid free mount measuring 42.8 x 56.3cm and posted out ready for you to take to a framer to choose the frame.

The Process:-

Drawing on my degree in Fine Art, I create a charcoal and chalk drawing of the landscape first. I love drawing with charcoal and concentrate on the composition without worrying about the colour at this point. I may make several charcoal versions until I am happy with the composition.

When I am happy with the charcoal landscape I create an oil pastel painting of the same landscape in colour. I do love colour and like to use lots of it. I also love my oil pastels and use them a bit like paint, I can push the pigment around with my fingers during the creation process to create a ‘painterly’ feel to the piece.
