Learn both wet felting and needle felting techniques in this relaxed two-day felting course in Leeds. With step by step instructions you’ll create a beautiful felted poppy field using soft merino wool, before adding detail and texture with needle felting techniques in week two. Suitable for beginners.

In week one, you’ll learn the wet felting technique, this involves laying out the dry loose merino wool to create your poppy landscape. At the end we add warm soapy water and friction to make it turn into a solid piece of felt. I still find it magical today and love this process. If you struggle with the final part of the process (rolling the wool to get it to matt together) I will be on hand to help you every step of the way – so just let me know you need help.

In week two, you’ll return to your dried felt picture and add finer detail using needle felting. You’ll learn how to use a special barbed needle to work additional wool fibres into the surface, adding texture, definition and extra detail to your poppies, grasses, sky or landscape.

Each finished piece will be completely unique. You can follow the poppy field theme, or, if you prefer, use week two to create a new needle felted piece inspired by your own landscape image or one provided on the day.
