SUBJECT: View from Malham Cove across the Yorkshire countryside
As we walked from the village to Malham Cove, we could hear the sound of the stream gently trickling alongside us as Malham Cove got closer and closer.
Once at Malham Cove, we took the steps to the top, which is where you can see this beautiful view of Malham Cove and the distant fields.
From here we went across the huge cracked stones at the top and down to Janet’s Foss waterfall. After a little paddle to cool down and rest, we walked back to the village for tea and cake. It’s a lovely family day out with the kids.
Malham Cove is a majestic view,
You’d know if you’ve been there too.
The curved rock face, the trickling stream,
The kind of view straight from a dream.
A magical place in the heart of Yorkshire,
A beauty spot that’s such a corker.
Ascend the mount – it’s a long slog,
But at the summit, you feel top dog.
This is the view to beat,
With cracked rocks beneath your feet.
Breathtaking beauty, the calm, the air…
Take it all in from way up there.
Release the tension, breath by breath.
Stretch your eyes out towards the horizon.
You’re now truly alive and free,
In the place where you want to be.

Drawing on my degree in Fine Art, I create a charcoal and chalk drawing of the landscape first. I love drawing with charcoal and concentrate on the composition without worrying about colour at this point. I may make several charcoal versions until I am happy with the composition.
When I am happy with the charcoal landscape, I create an oil pastel painting of the same landscape in colour. I do love colour and like to use lots of it. I also love my oil pastels and use them a bit like paint, pushing the pigment around with my fingers during the creation process to create a ‘painterly’ feel to the piece.
This original oil pastel painting would make a beautiful and unique gift for someone who loves Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Dales or Malham. It could make a special birthday, wedding, Christmas or anniversary gift, or simply be a lovely piece to buy for yourself.
