Last Summer, I set out to experience the vast open landscape of the Yorkshire Moors while the heather was in full bloom. I drove through miles of vibrant purple heather, stopping along the way to capture photos of the stunning scenery.
The narrow road, flanked by heather on both sides, was incredibly quiet, with barely another soul in sight for miles around.
It was a truly beautiful and serene scene, and I wanted to celebrate it with this felt artwork featuring a majestic moorland stag resting among the blooming heather.
He nestled into the heather
To rest after a day so long,
A noble stag, quiet and strong,
Amongst the colourful blooms.
Pinks and purples paint the hills,
A magic show to give you chills.
The vibrant colours, so bold,
A fine sight to behold.
The summer months so fine,
The Yorkshire Moors are so divine.
They make you feel so calm and free,
Stretching as far as eyes can see.

What is a giclée print?
Pronounced “zhee-clay”, giclée is the French word meaning “to spray”. Giclée printing is a high-quality fine art printing process using archival pigmented inks to produce excellent detail and rich colours, with prints designed to last for many years.

Slight variations in colour may occur between the printed artwork and the image you see on your screen.
Drawing on my degree in Fine Art, I use wool in lots of different colours, much as you would use tubes of paint, and lay out the loose fibres of different coloured wool onto my base, as you would paint onto canvas.
Once finished, the next stage is to make these loose fibres of wool stick together using the wet felting technique to turn the wool painting into a piece of felt. This is done by adding hot soapy water and friction. The hot water opens up the wool’s scales and the friction, through rubbing and rolling, binds them together. During this process the wool shrinks by about 15–20%, leaving one piece of felt material.
Once the felted picture is dry, I needle felt into the piece to sharpen some of the details.
