North Yorkshire landscape art, yorkshire dales, charcoal drawing, ‘Masham, Autumn light’ 19x19cm

North Yorkshire landscape art of a view near Masham in the Yorkshire Dales, created with charcoal and chalk.

TITLE “Masham, Autumn light” Masham, Yorkshire.

MEDIUM An original charcoal and chalk drawing

As a family day out we visited the druids temple near Masham in North Yorkshire. After exploring the druids temple we walked through the trees to see this view of Leighton Reservoir. It was a lovely autumn day with a lovely soft light on the fields which lit up the reservoir.

It seemed like a good area for walkers to see the local landscape of North Yorkshire with a variety of walks available. We hope to go back one day.

Creating this view in charcoal and chalk gives this black and white landscape a very atmospheric feel.

The Process:-

Drawing on my degree in Fine Art painting and drawing, I create a charcoal drawing first, then a colourful oil pastel painting of the same scene. I then use both of these to create the felt landscape  out of wool and other materials. I find creating the scene in oil pastel first helps to give my felt landscapes more of a painterly feel.
