It was August on a chilly, rainy and windy day in Scotland. We arrived at Belhaven Beach wrapped up warm. The sky was dark and moody and the rain softly pitter-pattered around us.
The beach was mostly deserted, just the odd dog walker.
There was just the sound of the waves, rain and our children laughing in the water, warm in their wetsuits. The rain continued to fall softly. We were on holiday, so had to “live for the moment”.
It was one of those family holiday memories that wasn’t perfect weather-wise, but somehow became a lovely memory because we simply enjoyed being there together.
A Scottish summer family holiday,
Can be rainy, windy and grey.
We arrived at Belhaven Beach,
The sky was dark and moody that day.
Few others were there to be seen,
Just dog walkers, hardy and keen.
The soft pitter-patter sound of rain,
Quietly hushed as it hit the sand.
Our daughters, warm in wetsuits,
Playful on the beach and in the sea
Laughing together, happy and free,
Living for the moment… as it should be.

What is a giclée print?
Pronounced “zhee-clay”, giclée is the French word meaning “to spray”. Giclée printing is a high-quality fine art printing process using archival pigmented inks to produce excellent detail and rich colours, with prints designed to last for many years.

Drawing on my Fine Art degree, I create my felt landscapes using wool as a painter would use oils or watercolours. Layers of coloured merino wool fibres are carefully arranged to build the landscape before being transformed into felt using the traditional wet felting technique of hot soapy water, rolling and friction.
During felting, the wool naturally shrinks by around 15–20%, creating a single piece of felt. Once dry, I use needle felting to refine details and add texture before the artwork is professionally scanned for printing.
