Thistles at Malham Cove art print, “Thistles at Malham Cove” is a limited edition giclée art print reproduced from my original handmade felt landscape artwork. It captures the vibrant purple thistles growing in the meadows beneath the dramatic limestone cliffs of Malham Cove in the Yorkshire Dales.
MEDIUM: Limited edition giclée art print from an original felt landscape artwork
STYLE: Yorkshire wildflower art / felt landscape art
LOCATION: Malham Cove, near Malham, North Yorkshire
SUBJECT: Purple thistles / Malham Cove / Yorkshire Dales landscape
We embarked on our walk from Malham village towards Malham Cove. Passing through lush green meadows, the gentle trickle of a nearby stream accompanied our steps.
The meadows were adorned with clusters of purple thistles, adding vibrant splashes of colour to the otherwise green and rocky landscape. Seeing Malham Cove rising ahead of us was breathtaking.
What caught my eye just as much as the dramatic landscape were the vibrant purple thistles scattered throughout the meadows. Their rich colour stood out beautifully against the fresh green grass and pale limestone, adding a wonderful splash of colour to the Yorkshire countryside.
It was this contrast between the delicate wildflowers and the grandeur of Malham Cove that inspired my original felt landscape.
Malham Cove is a majestic view,
You’d know if you’ve been there too.
The curved rock face, the trickling stream,
The kind of view straight from a dream.
A magical place in the heart of Yorkshire,
A beauty spot that’s such a corker.
Ascend the mount – it’s a long slog,
But at the summit, you feel top dog.
This is the view to beat,
With cracked rocks beneath your feet.
Breathtaking beauty, the calm, the air…
Take it all in from way up there.
Release the tension, breath by breath.
Stretch your eyes out towards the horizon.
You’re now truly alive and free,
In the place where you want to be.

What is a giclée print?
Pronounced “zhee-clay”, giclée is the French word meaning “to spray”. Giclée printing is a high-quality fine art printing process using archival pigmented inks to produce excellent detail and rich colours, with prints designed to last for many years.
PLEASE NOTE: FRAME AND MOUNT ARE NOT INCLUDED.
Slight variations in colour may occur between the printed artwork and the image you see on your screen.
Drawing on my Fine Art degree, I create my felt landscapes using wool as a painter would use oils or watercolours. Layers of coloured merino wool fibres are carefully arranged to build the landscape before being transformed into felt using the traditional wet felting technique of hot soapy water, rolling and friction.
During felting, the wool naturally shrinks by around 15–20%, creating a single piece of felt. Once dry, I use needle felting to refine details and add texture before the artwork is professionally scanned for printing.
