Malham Cove is one of our favourite Yorkshire family walks. We usually head to the top of Malham Cove first, then traverse down the hill to the road and wander into the woods to visit this stunning waterfall, Janet’s Foss. It’s a popular spot for bathers and paddlers (like myself!) a little cooling dip before carrying on into the village of Malham. I can highly recommend a visit.
In this small oil pastel, I wanted to capture the crystal clearness of the shallows – the water is so clear you can see right through to the floor of the pool. I’ve tried to bring in the vibrant colours of summer, and the sense of the waterfall splashing as it hits the pool below.
The original painting measures 12.5cm (W) x 23.8cm (H).
Free mount provided* (see notes below), mounted size: 28cm (W) x 39.8cm (H).
*There is a small mark on the mount board (see pictures) I have therefore reduced the price by £35 to £125 instead it would usually be £165, you could double mount it and add a mount on top of this mount to cover up the mark.

Drawing on my degree in Fine Art, I create a charcoal and chalk drawing of the landscape first. I love drawing with charcoal and concentrate on the composition without worrying about the colour at this point. I may make several charcoal versions until I am happy with the composition.
When I am happy with the charcoal landscape I create an oil pastel painting of the same landscape in colour. I do love colour and like to use lots of it. I also love my oil pastels and use them a bit like paint, I can push the pigment around with my fingers during the creation process to create a ‘painterly’ feel to the piece.
