On a lovely summer’s day, I noticed the wild daisies growing in the meadow area of our garden. They had grown so tall and waved gently in the breeze.
As I watched them, I noticed the dark background of foliage behind them, which made their beauty stand out and shine in the sunlight as they reached for the sky.
I took photographs of them and recreated the scene in felt. I used a piece of black material for the background, which through the felting process has created a lovely textured backdrop for the daisies.
Daisies in the grasses grow
I watch them as they sway and flow
Sun shining bright, casting shadows
Tall daisies whisper, “please don’t mow.”
In this easy summer breeze
The daisies move with such ease
Their beauty beyond compare
Nature’s best, as light as air.

What is a giclée print?
Pronounced “zhee-clay”, giclée is the French word meaning “to spray”. Giclée printing is a high-quality fine art printing process using archival pigmented inks to produce excellent detail and rich colours, with prints designed to last for many years.

Drawing on my Fine Art degree, I create my felt landscapes using wool as a painter would use oils or watercolours. Layers of coloured merino wool fibres are carefully arranged to build the artwork before being transformed into felt using the traditional wet felting technique of hot soapy water, rolling and friction.
During felting, the wool naturally shrinks by around 15–20%, creating a single piece of felt. Once dry, I use needle felting to refine details and add texture.
