This is an original charcoal drawing, created by hand and inspired by the landscape of Masham in North Yorkshire.
Working in charcoal allows me to focus on light, texture and atmosphere, capturing a sense of place in a simple, expressive way.

Inspiration
As a family day out we visited the druids temple near Masham in North Yorkshire. After exploring the druids temple we walked through the trees to see this Yorkshire landscape view of Leighton Reservoir. It was an autumn day with this lovely light on the fields and the reservoir.
It seemed like a good area for walkers to see the local landscape of North Yorkshire with a variety of walks available. We hope to go back one day.
Creating this view in charcoal and chalk gives this black and white landscape a very atmospheric feel.
The original Yorkshire landscape drawing measures approximately 19cm (H) x 19cm (W).
Unframed:- The final artwork is mounted in a mount (12″x12″) and posted out ready for you to take to a framer to choose the frame.

Drawing on my degree in Fine Art painting and drawing, I create a charcoal drawing first, then a colourful oil pastel painting of the same scene. I then use both of these to create the felt landscape out of wool and other materials. I find creating the scene in oil pastel first helps to give my felt landscapes more of a painterly feel.
