Yorkshire Moors painting of Roseberry Topping. An original oil pastel painting of Roseberry Topping from Captain Cooks Monument.
We have a deep affection for the Yorkshire Moors and Roseberry Topping in Yorkshire, and after seeing its winter beauty, I was eager to see it in the summer with the blooming heather. The hills surrounding Roseberry Topping are abundant with heather from mid-July to September, transforming the landscape into a sight to behold.
Our journey began at Captain Cooks Monument car park, where we walked up a gentle climb to Captain Cooks Monument at the top. Unlike clambering up Roseberry Topping itself, this walk offers a more manageable route, taking us about 45 minutes. At the top, we enjoyed our picnic before venturing out to explore the surrounding walking trails.
The view from Captain Cooks Monument overlooking Roseberry Topping is truly mesmerizing, regardless of the season. However, it becomes exceptionally magical when the heather is in full bloom.
The original painting measures 22.5cm (H) x 22.5cm (W).
Unframed:- The final artwork is mounted in a double thickness acid free mount measuring 38cm (H) x 37.2cm (w) and posted out ready for you to take to a framer to choose the frame.

Drawing on my degree in Fine Art, I create a charcoal and chalk drawing of the landscape first. I love drawing with charcoal and concentrate on the composition without worrying about the colour at this point. I may make several charcoal versions until I am happy with the composition.
When I am happy with the charcoal landscape I create an oil pastel painting of the same landscape in colour. I do love colour and like to use lots of it. I also love my oil pastels and use them a bit like paint, I can push the pigment around with my fingers during the creation process to create a ‘painterly’ feel to the piece. This would make a beautiful unique gift for a special person. You may buy this piece for yourself or for a loved one who has a special birthday, wedding, christmas gift or anniversary gift.
