Sheep art print, “You’re Not My Boss” is a limited edition giclée art print reproduced from my original oil pastel painting. It depicts a beautiful view of the North Yorkshire countryside near Burnsall, with a sheep and sheepdog having a rather amusing stand-off in the foreground.
MEDIUM: Limited edition giclée art print from an original oil pastel painting
STYLE: Yorkshire landscape art / sheep art
LOCATION: Burnsall, North Yorkshire
SUBJECT: Sheep, sheepdog and Yorkshire countryside
This artwork portrays the sheep industry in Yorkshire. It was created for an exhibition at Leeds Industrial Museum, in association with the International Feltmakers Association Region 10, highlighting the impact of industrialisation on the environment.
It captures a moment in time, with a sheep in close proximity to a collie dog, locked in a standoff. It was this interaction that inspired the title You’re Not My Boss.
I like to include my four pet sheep that I had as a child in my artwork whenever possible. For this piece, I used a photograph I took during my GCSE photography course in the 1990s and integrated my four childhood pet sheep into the scene, against the backdrop of a picturesque North Yorkshire landscape near Burnsall.
I also added my friend’s collie dog in place of my Dad’s mixed-breed dog, which was the one having the stand-off with the sheep in the original photograph. I chose a collie to reflect the traditional dog breed used within the sheep industry.
Burnsall, a Yorkshire beauty spot,
With rolling hills of green.
Where sheep graze freely in the fields,
A peaceful, timeless scene.
So many walks for all to enjoy,
With views to restore your soul.
De-stress with every step,
As nature makes you whole.
One ewe stomps with a stubborn glare,
She stamps her feet and does declare,
“You’re not my boss!” She lowers her head,
The sheepdog admits defeat instead.
My prints are professionally produced using high-quality materials and archival pigmented inks. Customers often comment on the exceptional quality of my prints, saying they look even better in person than they expected.
This Burnsall sheep art print is professionally scanned from my original oil pastel painting and reproduced as a high-quality giclée fine art print.
The original artwork brings together a very personal childhood memory with the Yorkshire landscape. The sheep are based on my own four childhood pet sheep, while the background reflects the countryside around Burnsall.
