We began our walk in the picturesque village of Malham, a lovely spot in the Yorkshire Dales that never fails to inspire me. We walked beside a babbling stream towards Malham Cove, unaware that another highlight was yet to come.
We ascended the steps to the left of Malham Cove, reaching the top to be greeted by a breathtaking panoramic view, the perfect backdrop for a picnic and a well deserved rest.
After our picnic, we crossed the famous rocky terrain at the top, a notable filming location for a wizarding movie. Then, we descended the hill and made our way to Janets Foss waterfall.
The gentle cascade of water, surrounded by lush greenery, was a sight to behold. We couldn’t resist paddling in the cool waters of the waterfall, a refreshing experience on a hot day that helped to cool our feet and revive us after our walk.
This waterfall was the inspiration for my felt landscape artwork, capturing the tranquillity and natural beauty of Janet’s Foss and allowing me to preserve the memory of this special day.
A walk that was so long,
From Malham village for the strong.
Up Malham Cove and across the cracks,
A picnic and some delicious snacks.
The waterfall looked divine,
The water did surely shine.
Refreshingly cool after the trek,
A paddle and splash upon the neck.
Janet’s Foss, a hidden treasure,
A place to enjoy at our leisure.
The water, crystal blue and clear,
A treasured memory, year by year.

What is a giclée print?
Pronounced “zhee-clay”, giclée is the French word meaning “to spray”. Giclée printing is a high-quality fine art printing process using archival pigmented inks to produce excellent detail and rich colours, with prints designed to last for many years.

Drawing on my Fine Art degree, I create my felt landscapes using wool as a painter would use oils or watercolours. Layers of coloured merino wool fibres are carefully arranged to build the landscape before being transformed into felt using the traditional wet felting technique of hot soapy water, rolling and friction.
During felting, the wool naturally shrinks by around 15–20%, creating a single piece of felt. Once dry, I use needle felting to refine details and add texture before the artwork is professionally scanned for printing.
